Students who graduate with an associate of science degree from a technical college can expect to seamlessly transition into Albany State University's new Bachelor of Applied Science Degree (BAS) program in Supply Chain and Logistics Management. A proposal approved this week by the University System of Georgia allows ASU to offer two Supply Chain and Logistics Management degree programs, the Bachelor of Science (BS) and the BAS that have similar major requirements. Now, ASU can accommodate the maximum credit transfer possible from both two year liberal arts programs and two year technical colleges.
“From purchase to transportation and delivery, Southwest Georgia corporations rely on professionals in the industry who know how to get their products into the hands of consumers. There is a great demand for college graduates who understand how the process works. Albany State can offer a pathway to degree completion to help meet the critical need for experts equipped with special training,” said ASU President Everette J. Freeman.
The BAS degree offered online and in the traditional classroom setting allows students who live in the state or anywhere in the world to take the courses. Students must enroll for 60 hours or more in classes such as logistics security, warehousing, transportation management, introduction to global logistics and logistics information systems to complete the degree.
“The new degree program is an important addition to the existing Bachelor of Science degree program in supply chain and logisticsmanagement that will help address the economic growth needs in our region, locally and statewide,” said ASU College of Business dean Dr. Fidelis Ikem.
A grant to ASU from the Department of Defense in the amount of $2.4 million established a Bachelor of Science degree program and the Center for Advanced Logistics Management on the campus.
This summer, ASU’s College of Business will begin accepting technical college students in the new BAS degree program.
