TAG Hosts Annual High Tech Day at State Capitol

Press release from the issuing company

Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

The Technology Association of Georgia today announced it will hold its annual High Technology Day at the Georgia State Capitol on February 28, 2013.

The event, held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., is the yearly gathering of members of the state's technology community to visit with key legislators. The event concludes with a luncheon featuring a panel of chief information officers in the Empire Room at the Sloppy Floyd Building, downtown Atlanta.

During this year's High Tech Day, technology community representatives will be urging legislators to extend the Angel Investor Tax Credit, which expires at the end of the 2013 tax year. Passed by the 2010 General Assembly, the legislation established an income tax credit for individuals that invest in certain statutorily defined start-up companies.

"As Atlanta and the country emerge from one of the nation's worst recessions since the Great Depression, we believe it is vital that Georgia continues to provide a strong environment for entrepreneurial companies, which have proven to be powerful job creators," said Tino Mantella, president of TAG.

According to TAG, during the two years of the program, nearly 100 companies have registered to receive investments from angel investors, with angel groups across Georgia reporting an increase in activity since the law passed as well as increased partnerships with venture capital firms.

There are more than 20 states that have a form of angel investor tax credit in place, with Alabama and South Carolina considering legislation in competition with Georgia. Facebook, Cisco, the Home Depot and many other successful and large companies began with angel investments.

TAG is currently accepting sponsorships for High Tech Day, including Gold Sponsors who will participate in an invitation-only dinner February 27, 2013 with members of the Georgia House and Senate Science and Technology Committees, among other benefits.
