Mark Lane Promoted to Synovus Regional CEO

Synovus Bank, the Georgia-chartered, FDIC-insured bank, today announced that Mark J. Lane has been promoted to Synovus Regional CEO, in addition to his current role as Chief Executive Officer of SB&T, a division of Synovus Bank.

Lane will oversee the banking operations of Synovus Bank divisions CB&T of Southeast Alabama (Enterprise/Dothan), Commercial Bank (Thomasville), First Community Bank (Tifton), First State Bank and Trust Company (Valdosta), SB&T (Albany/Americus), Coastal Bank and Trust (Pensacola/Valparaiso/Mobile, Alabama) and Tallahassee State Bank.

“Mark was asked to spend the past year leading Synovus’ asset disposition efforts, in addition to his full-time role as CEO of SB&T,” said R. Dallis “D” Copeland, Jr., Chief Banking Officer of Synovus. “He has done an outstanding job guiding a challenging process for our company, all while remaining solidly connected to his team and customers in the Albany and Americus communities. I am confident in Mark’s ability to successfully lead the SB&T team and expand his influence across our South Georgia and Alabama, and Northwest Florida region.”

Lane’s career with Synovus began in 1989 as a Management Associate with Columbus Bank and Trust. He was later promoted to Credit Analyst in 1993 and also worked as a Commercial Banker in Correspondent Banking. He was later named Commercial Lending Manager in 1997. Lane was named President and CEO of Quincy State Bank, a former Synovus bank, in 1999. He was elected to serve as the President and CEO of SB&T in 2003. Lane is a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. His community involvement includes his previous service on the Executive Committee of the Albany, Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Commission Board. He currently serves as a member of the Phoebe Putney Hospital Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Deerfield Windsor School. Lane is also a graduate of Leadership Albany and Leadership Georgia.
