Thursday, August 18th, 2011

U.S. travelers are choosing to spend Summer's last long holiday weekend (September 3-5) in the States, according to priceline.com'sannual list of the Top 50Labor DayDestinations.

New York City'sMidtown Westarea is the #1 most popular destination forLabor Day2011, followed by #2Chicago's North Michigan Ave./River North Areaand #3 Las Vegas Strip North. Priceline's Top 50Labor Daylist is based on thousands of hotel room booking requests made on priceline.com's Name Your Own Price® hotel service for the holiday. Because the survey is based on actual booking requests, and not on consumer preference polls or votes, priceline.com believes its annual survey is one of the more accurate predictors ofLabor Daytravel trends.

This year, no European cities made Priceline's Top 50Labor Daylist. "The results were a bit of a surprise, sinceLondonwas such a big draw forMemorial Dayfollowing the Royal Wedding," saidBrian Ek, Priceline's in-house Travel Ekspert. "It's possible that the civil unrest inEuropeis having some effect on tourism. However, visitors to the major U.S. cities are likely to see crowds over the long weekend, which is positive news for restaurants, theaters and retailers with their back-to-school sales."
