In a recentarticle by The New York Times,Mexico's impressive advances in education, economy and democracy are making Mexican citizens choose to stay inMexicorather than migrate north tothe United States.MexicoToday'svideoon YouTube andblogon its websitewww.mexicotoday.orgillustrate the story.

Some of the findings in the article come fromDouglas S. Massey, co-director of the Mexican Migration Project atPrinceton, who conducted an extensive, long-term study which found that, "For the first time in 60 years, the net traffic [fromMexicotothe United States]has gone to zero and is probably a little bit negative."

Another expert,Roberto Newell, a prominent economist, is referenced in a recentblogthat per capita gross domestic product and family income have each jumped more than 45 percent over the past ten years. Despite all the depictions ofMexicoas "nearly a failed state," Newell argued, "the conventional wisdom is wrong."

Confirming the value of socio-economic progress, some experts likeJeffery S. Passel, a demographer at the Pew Hispanic Center, believe that, "if you have a college degree you're much more likely to stay in Mexicobecause that is surely more valuable inMexico."
