Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Georgia Historical Society will present three free statewide heritage tourismworkshops this summer for its Affiliate Chapters, interested cultural institutions, and individuals interested in history as an economic resource. The one-day workshops, conducted by GHS staff, will train workers and volunteers in the use of local historical resources (including historical markers and online tools) for promoting tourism in their communities, encourage participants to identify local cultural resources and develop ideas and strategies for incorporating these assets into local tours and history programs.

The workshops will be held in:

Dalton on June 6 at the Dalton CVB Freight Depot

Plains on June 10 at the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site

Milledgeville on June 17 at the Old Governor's Mansion

Presentations will include examples of successful strategies by local groups from across Georgia, while break-out sessions will allow participants to brainstorm activities for increasing tourism numbers at their institutions. Examples of these presentations include Developing a Theme, Creating a Marketing Plan, and Dealing with the Media.
