Washington, D.C. - U.S. Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President for Government Affairs R. Bruce Josten issued the following statement today applauding the Senate for passing H.R. 4, which would repeal the burdensome 1099 reporting mandate, and effectively sends the bill to the President's desk:

"The Chamber applauds today's vote to repeal the onerous 1099 reporting requirement that was slipped into last year's health care law. With small businesses struggling to grow and create jobs the last thing they need is the federal government burying them in senseless paperwork.

"This action today is a positive step towards reducing the overreach of government and allowing the private sector to help guide our economic recovery. We hope the President will quickly sign the bill into law.

"But our work has just begun. The 1099 reporting mandate is one of many troublesome provisions in the health care law that will restrict small businesses from doing what they do best-growing the economy and creating jobs. We will remain vigilant on the need to repair or eliminate other onerous mandates and provisions which saddle businesses with burdens that discourage them from expanding their businesses."
