Georgia Ports Continue Double-digit Growth
Press release from the issuing company
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011
The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) on Monday reported 16.3 percent container volume growth in February 2011, boosted in part by the second-best month ever for auto and machinery activity in Savannah and Brunswick.
Some 235,665 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) crossed Georgia's docks in February, GPA said. Fiscal-year-to-date volume is up 13.6 percent for TEUs.
"Heavy volumes have been driven by ongoing market recovery and continued inventory replenishment," said Curtis Foltz, GPA executive director, in a statement. "Exports continue to outpace imports since the depth of the recession in 2009."
