U.S. Unemployment Dips to 9%

The U.S. unemployment rate was down 0.4 percentage points to 9 percent in January, yet job growth slowed, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

Non-farm employment across the nation rose by only 36,000 from December levels, led by manufacturing and retail. Construction and transportation jobs declined.
