Women own 7.8M Businesses Nationwide, more than 30% in Georgia

Thirty percent of all businesses in California are owned by women -- the ninth-highest percentage in any state, according to a new report from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Georgia had a total of 278,287 women-owned businesses in 2007, the latest year for which figures are available. That was 30.87 percent of the statewide total.

The District of Columbia, which is treated as a state by the Census Bureau, has the highest percentage of women-owned businesses, 34.5 percent..
