House Democrats Demand Changes to Tax Deal

So much for momentum. President Barack Obama’s tax-cut deal, which appeared to be on the road to Senate passage, ran into a roadblock Thursday in the House.

House Democrats, in their daily party meeting, approved a resolution that stated the deal should not be brought up for a vote in its current form. The resolution isn’t binding, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — who doesn’t like the deal herself — isn’t likely to go against the wishes of her caucus.

"We will continue discussions with the president and our Democratic and Republican colleagues in the days ahead to improve the proposal before it comes to the House floor for a vote," Pelosi said.
