Perhaps Albany’s biggest drawing card nationally is its location in the center of quail hunting country.

The dozens of quail hunting establishments and the area’s abundant supply of water has drawn many manufacturers to southwest Georgia over the years.

Merck, for example, was reportedly drawn to Albany primarily because of its abundant water supply, which also was a factor in MillerCoors coming to the city.

Ivan Gore, former president of Cooper Tire Co., initially visited Albany to go quail hunting. A few months later, he announced that Cooper was opening a manufacturing plant here.
