Record Port Traffic in Savannah

The port of Savannah notched 20 percent growth in container traffic over the last three months, the Georgia Ports Authority announced Thursday, a record-setting beginning to the 2011 fiscal year.

Nearly 743,000 shipping containers flowed into and out of Savannah the last three months. A year earlier, about 618,000 containers were imported and exported, GPA reported. Savannah even surpassed pre-recession levels of container traffic.
