More Pain for Long-Term Jobless

The employment landscape darkened Thursday for Georgia’s long-term jobless.
Not since the recession began nearly three years ago have so many Georgians been without a steady job for such a long period of time. More than 236,000 laid-off workers – 50.7 percent of all the men and women in Georgia searching for a job – haven’t found work in at least 27 weeks, according to September statistics released Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.
Only 15 percent of Georgians struggled as long to find a job when the recession began in December 2007.
