Statement from Chief Economist Bart van Ark on Employment Situation Report
Sluggish private sector employment mirrors the weak prospects for the broader economy. Pervasive uncertainty about how long it will take before things get better is limiting hiring now. We see few signs of meaningful improvement in any sector or region. With slumping consumer confidence and weakening business confidence, and with no fiscal help on the horizon, we are stuck in the slow lane.
