Southeast Economy Slowed in July, August

While the Southeast weathered a brutally hot summer, the region’s economic activity continued to cool down in July and August, according to the Federal Reserve's Beige Book report on Sept. 8.

Most Southeast merchants reported traffic and sales decreased in July and August. Retailers continued to keep inventory levels low and the outlook was less positive than in previous months. Automobile dealers indicated that sales increased from a year ago.
