Q&A: Regulator Discusses Georgia Bank Failures

Tom Dujenski, the new regional director of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., took over in May as the top bank regulator in a seven-state territory that leads the nation with 86 bank failures over the past two years.

Through Thursday, Georgia was No. 1 nationally, with 40 closures since August 2008, and Florida was No. 2 with 36.

Dujenski, 51, started his career with the FDIC 27 years ago, and has worked in every one of the regulator’s eight regional offices. Before moving to Atlanta, he was the regional head of the FDIC in Dallas, overseeing a three-state region with 12 bank failures.
