Jobless Claims Increase

The U.S. job market continues to shrink, as the number of initial claims for unemployment insurance jumped for the week ending Aug. 7, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Georgia was among the states with the largest increase in initial jobless claims with a 1,738 jump.

The nation's weekly jobless claims rose to 484,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 482,000, according to the report released Thursday morning. The four-week moving average was 473,500, and an increase of 14,250 from the previous week's revised average of 459,250.
