Former U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal captured the Republican nomination for governor when opponent Karen Handel conceded a primary runoff contest Wednesday that had been too close to call.
“The best thing for our party is to rally around Congressman Deal as our nominee,” Handel said in a prepared statement issue shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday. “I spoke with Nathan this morning and let him know that I endorse his candidacy. … I have also called on all who were supporting me to give their same commitment and energy to Nathan."
