Synovus chief takes medical leave

Synovus Financial Corp. Chairman and CEO Richard E. Anthony is taking a leave of absence to battle Wegener’s Syndrome, the Columbus, Ga., financial services company said Monday.
Synovus (NYSE SNV) reported Anthony took ill several weeks ago and within the last few days was diagnosed with a blood vessel disorder called Wegener’s Syndrome. The disease is a form of vasculitis that needs intensive treatment. He is currently undergoing treatment at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham.
