Friday, June 25th, 2010

In an entertaining ceremony this morning, executives of Short & Paulk Supply Company joined by members of Albany's chamber of commerce opened a newly-renovated building supply center, formerly known as Giles Builders Supply, at 400 North Cleveland Street in Albany. Typically a ribbon is cut to mark such occasions. Today they used a chainsaw to cut through a section of a wooden beam.

Jay Short, president of Short and Paulk, said "We are excited about the opportunities ahead of us in Albany and look forward to being a part of the business community.  I'm am also really proud of our manager Keith Gates and the staff he has assembled in the new store with each having an average of over 22 years experience in the building material industry."

Customers and visitors in the store had opportunities to win door prizes that were announced every 15 minutes through the morning and early afternoon. They saw an interior featuring 7000 square feet dedicated to a full-line hardware and building products center and 3000 square feet in a millwork showroom displaying windows, doors and special order hardware.

Short & Paulk Supply Company specializes in providing lumber and building materials to residential and commercial construction sites throughout South Georgia.

In addition to the new location in Albany, the company operates lumberyards in Tifton, Sylvester and Cordele and two Tifton-based manufacturing plants, one for doors and another for roof and floor trusses. The plants currently deliver product to work sites within a radius of 120 miles.

Short & Paulk was established in 1941 by J.P. Short III and H.M. Paulk. The Short family gained sole ownership in 1963, yet the business continued with its original name. The company's corporate office is located in Tifton.
