MCLB Albany’s Independence Day Celebration set for July 2

Press release from the issuing company

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

The base will demonstrate support of our local community Friday, July 2, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., as we host the 16th annual Independence Day Celebration here.

The event is free and open to the public.

Highlights that evening are scheduled to be the Albany Marine Band performances, a military working dog demonstration and special guest Miss Georgia 2010.

Due to the growing number of guests that visit Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany for its annual Independence Day Celebration, all personnel attending the celebration are strongly encouraged to arrive at the base early due to limited parking.

For the safety and security of our guests, the Marine Corps Police Department may be forced to deny access to the installation after 8:30 p.m. or once the visitor’s parking lots reach capacity.

All guests should make plans to secure parking, clear security and gain entry to the installation prior to 8:30 p.m. to avoid possible disappointment.

Food and beverage vendors will be on hand, as well as entertainment for both children and adults.

The evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display.

Last year more than 11,000 people attended the celebration. There will be public parking at the main gate. The public is asked not to bring alcohol, coolers, pets, weapons, knives or wear inappropriate clothing. Bags will be subject to inspection. The public is welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

The base is scheduled to open the main gate to the general public at 4 p.m., the fireworks are scheduled to begin just after sunset and the event will conclude around 10 p.m.
