Consumer spending slides in May

Consumer spending began to slow in May due to high unemployment, according to First Data Corp.’s First Data SpendTrend report.

After a rebound in consumer spending in the first quarter of 2010, spending growth began to ease up as same-store dollar volume growth was 9.2 percent and transaction growth was up 8.4 percent in May, following 10.2 percent and 9 percent, respectively, in April.
