Property tax returns could cost city-county

Cash-strapped Albany and Dougherty County governments may lose even more revenue because of property tax returns.

More than a thousand property owners who filed the returns challenging their property values recently got responses. Now they have until mid-June to accept them or appeal. The city and county stand to lose in this process. Right now, property assessment values are frozen and can't go higher. But if owners prove other homes in their neighborhood are selling for less, they'll likely get a lower value. (read more at walb.com)
