Bill shifts cost from taxpayers to ratepayers

A bill shifting some utility regulation costs from taxpayers to ratepayers begins making its way through the state Senate next week. Backed by the state Public Service Commission, utilities and consumer watchdogs, HB 1233 lets regulated utilities charge a small fee to pay for expert consultants in PSC cases. Utilities would cut checks to the consultants and recoup the costs from customers. Currently, the PSC pays for experts from state tax money. (read more at ajc.com)
