Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper announced that the Georgia Farm to Food Bank Program, a partnership between the Georgia Department of Agriculture and Feeding Georgia, has awarded $825,000 to eight regional food banks across the state. The Farm to Food Bank Program provides more than 14 million pounds of fresh produce to Georgians facing food insecurity by purchasing “unmarketable” but otherwise healthy produce from Georgia farmers and distributing it to Georgians in need via the Georgia Food Bank Network. The Program is supported by an annual appropriation from the Georgia General Assembly.
“Through Georgia’s Farm to Food Bank Program, we are helping provide fresh, healthy food to Georgians in need while supporting our state’s #1 industry and the farm families who fuel its success,” said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper. “I am incredibly proud of the Farm to Food Bank Program, and I look forward to working with Feeding Georgia and my colleagues in the legislature to build on the success of this great program.”
