Albany State University Prepares for Academic Year After 2023 Summer Enrollment Increase

Wednesday, August 9th, 2023

Albany State University (ASU) is preparing for a successful academic year after experiencing an enrollment increase during summer 2023 totaling over 3,200 students. This is an estimated increase based on the 2,896 students that were enrolled during the summer of 2022.

“The growth in enrollment is due to the collective efforts of our faculty, staff, and students who desire a successful college experience. Programs and services such as the Summer Success Academy, University College, and study tables engage faculty as they further support our mission towards providing students access to success.” said Albany State University President, Marion Ross Fedrick. “We look forward to continuing our focus of preparing students to become influential leaders and providing them opportunities to take ownership of their educational experiences.”

The “Gold Carpet” new student orientation experience provides students with concierge-style enrollment services in recruitment, admissions, financial aid, and advising.

“At ASU, we take pride in providing an excellent experience that exposes students to the vital resources for their collegiate success,” said Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success, Kenyatta Johnson. “I am immensely proud of our department and all the work they put into upholding the standards of our university as we continue to create the programs and support systems that meet the needs of our students.”

The Summer Success Academy is an enrollment effort aligned with ASU’s strategic plan, the Standard, to provide students access to success. The 6-week residential program offers incoming freshmen learning opportunities as they get a head start on the ASU experience. The program allows students to work closely with expert faculty and be supported by a network of peer advisors, learning specialists, and tutors.

To support recruitment efforts ASU held an Annual Presidential Bus Tour in March. Throughout the event, students were presented with information on admissions and financial aid, learned about available degree programs, and interacted with key campus community members. Over 140 students received an on-site acceptance into the university.

The schools that participated in the event included: Calhoun County, Westover Comprehensive, Monroe Comprehensive, Dougherty County, and Lucy. C. Laney High School.
