ASU to Celebrate Homecoming Celebration This Week

Albany State University and Albany community members are eagerly awaiting alumni as they return to their alma mater, in celebration of the 2016 Homecoming, Oct. 17 - 22. This year’s Homecoming theme, “We’re All In” celebrates the students, alumni, community members and university partners and friends that continuously support Albany State University.  The week will be filled with events and activities, as alumni reconnect with old friends and celebrate the legacy of the institution.

Highlights of Homecoming include the Gospel Explosion featuring the ASU Anointed Gospel Choir, Sunday, Oct. 16 beginning at 6 p.m., in the ASU Billy C. Black Auditorium. Admission is free.

The ASU Student Government Association’s Homecoming Kick-off starts at noon, Monday, at the ASU Amphitheater.

Students are invited to watch the third presidential debate at 9 p.m., Wednesday, in the ASU Student Center Ballroom. The event is hosted by the ASU Student Government Association.

On Thursday, Miss Albany State University, Geniquiya Meredith, a senior education major from Columbus, Ga., will receive her crown. Mr. Albany State University, Semaj Guilford, a junior Criminal Justice major, and member of the ROTC, from Augusta, Ga., will also receive his crown. The coronation will be held at 6 p.m. in the ASU Health, Physical Education and Recreation Gymnasium.  The coronation is open to the public and admission is free.

ASU alumnus and Monroe High School Principal, Vinson R. Davis, is the keynote speaker at the Convocation scheduled at 10 a.m., Friday, in the ASU Health, Physical Education and Recreation Gymnasium.
 
Friday’s activities also include a Rams Homecoming celebration at 8 p.m. on the ASU Lower Campus Softball Field. The event will feature tailgaters and vendors.
 
Saturday is the culmination of the Homecoming celebration, beginning at 9 a.m. with the parade in Downtown Albany on Pine Avenue.
 
The Albany State University Golden Rams will take on the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University at 2 p.m., Saturday, in the ASU Coliseum.
 
The Step Show and the Alumni Stroll-off begin at 7 p.m., Saturday, in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Gymnasium. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
