The Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission continues the 2016-2017 “#MadeInAlbanyGA” campaign, featuring Mars Chocolate North America.

The campaign, which features an existing industry each month for the next year, is an expansion on the award-winning video of the same title, produced by the ADEDC in 2014. The 2016-2017 campaign includes videos, social media and print components.

“Being home to a successful large-scale manufacturer such as Mars Chocolate North America shows that Albany-Dougherty County is a place where food production businesses can thrive,” said ADEDC President Justin Strickland. “World renowned products made right here in Albany are some of the very best in their class. We’re proud to have these industries operating in Albany-Dougherty County and hope that the #MadeInAlbanyGA campaign will spread that pride throughout the community.”

In Albany since 1964, Mars Chocolate North America’s local plant is the network’s only producer of Combos baked snacks, as well as the company’s newest brand, goodnessknows snack squares, which launched nationally in 2015. The Albany plant produces over 6 million Combos per hour, and in 8 hours, enough goodnessknows to reach over 14,000 feet high, stacked on top of each other. Both products are distributed in all 50 states. In addition to its production operations, Mars’ Albany plant is also responsible for roasting all of the peanuts used in popular candy item, Snickers chocolate bars.

The campaign began last month with Pfizer Consumer Healthcare and will unfold through September 2017 with a different industry taking the spotlight each month, highlighting the personal story of a company representative and the products they produce. Campaign videos and other materials can be seen on the ADEDC’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, and on its Web site, choosealbany.com.
