Staff Report From Albany CEO

The Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission launched the 2016 “#MadeInAlbanyGA” campaign, which is designed to increase community awareness on the operations of existing industries and the products produced by real people in Albany-Dougherty County to be used all over the world.

The campaign, which features an existing industry each month for the next year, is an expansion on the award-winning video of the same title, produced by the ADEDC in 2014. The 2016 campaign includes videos, social media and print components.

“Albany-Dougherty County is home to industries with a major global impact, producing products that are common household names throughout the world,” said ADEDC President Justin Strickland. “As an advocate and resource for existing industries in Albany-Dougherty County, the ADEDC is dedicated to promoting and instilling community pride of our industry partners. The ‘#MadeInAlbanyGA’ campaign is another way in which we support our existing industries.”

The campaign begins this month featuring Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, whose Albany plant is the world’s sole manufacturer of ThermaCare Heat Wraps. The wraps have been produced exclusively in Albany since 2000, and have been part of the Pfizer brand since 2009. In 2015, the plant produced 66.71 million heat wraps. The brand is constantly expanding; in 2015, ThermaCare’s new multi-joint heat wrap was a winner of the Better Homes & Garden’s Best New Products Awards.

The campaign will unfold through September 2017 with a different industry taking the spotlight each month, highlighting the personal story of a company representative and the products they produce. Campaign videos and other materials can be seen on the ADEDC’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, and on its Web site, choosealbany.com.
