Friday, March 18th, 2016

Albany Technical College and GeorgiaFIRST Robotics will host the Albany - Peachtree District FIRST Robotics Competition March 18-19. The event will be held at the Albany Civic Center from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Attendance is free and open to the public.

More than 30 high schools from across Georgia will participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition, often described as half sporting event and half rock concert. This high-tech event will produce excitement and energy for participants and spectators alike, as teams compete for honors and recognition that reward design excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and more.

In this year’s game, STRONGHOLDS, two alliances of three robots each are on a quest to breach their opponents’ fortifications, weaken their tower with boulders, and capture the opposing tower. Robots score points by breaching opponents’ defenses and scoring boulders through goals in the opposing tower. During the final 20 seconds of the Quest, robots may surround and scale the opposing tower to capture it.

Be sure to come cheer on our home town robotics teams: the award-winning  Albany Technical College Titan Alliance (Team 5536), Monroe High School Terminators (Team 4730), Dougherty High School Trotek Warriors (Team 4240), Westover High School RoboPats (Team 5828), Terrell County High Shockwave (Team 5840) and Calhoun County Robotics (Team 5848).
