Phoebe Putney Celebrates Father’s Day Weekend By Honoring Fathers & Their Roles

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Monday, June 15th, 2015

Community leaders will honor and support middle school boys whose fathers are absent from their lives at a special lunch Friday, June 19, and Phoebe Putney provides a men’s health extravaganza Saturday, June 20, to help dad live a healthy life for years to come!

Ties that Bind Luncheon

Father’s Day weekend kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, with approximately 50 icons in the Albany/Dougherty County community meeting at Phoebe Northwest (2336 Dawson Road) to have lunch with young men whose fathers are absent from their lives. Community leaders who responded to the request to attend from Phoebe Putney’s Network of Trust School Health Program include:

  • Arthur Dunning, Ph.D., interim president of Albany State University:
  • Frank Wilson, executive director of Albany Civil Rights Institute;
  • David “Butch” Moseley, Ph.D., superintendent of schools for the Dougherty County School System; and
  • John Culbreath, Ph.D., former Dougherty County school superintendent and emcee for the event.

“The role models in my life made me who I am today,” Dr. Culbreath said. “I’m sure most the community leaders attending this lunch would say the same about their role models. We know the impact of someone saying I care about your future and know that it can be bright.”

Our community leaders will not only share a meal with the middle schoolers, they also will share a tie – a symbol of respect and distinction.

“I grew up without my father in my life,” said Darrell Sabbs, community benefits coordinator for Phoebe Putney Health System. “Not having a father to guide you and think the best of you impacts your self-worth and can lead to poor choices. A few kind words could be the inspiration a 13-year-old needs to have dreams and grasp future opportunities.”

Like our community leaders, Phoebe’s Network of Trust School Health Program is dedicated to the betterment of our community and the lives of those who live among us. We address positive youth outcomes academically, emotionally, and physically through a dedicated team of nurses and educators in the Dougherty County School System.

15th Annual Men’s Health Extravaganza – You’ve Got the Power!

Men and the people who love them need to mark the calendar for Phoebe Putney’s annual men’s health event Saturday, June 20, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  There is no need to register, just be at Phoebe Healthworks at 311 West Third Ave in Albany the morning before Father’s Day.
