Mayor Hubbard to Host Education Chiefs in Public Forum

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Monday, January 12th, 2015

Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard will host the heads of Albany’s four public educational institutions as well as the director of Turner Job Corps Center during a community-‐ wide forum focused on education, to be held on January 13 in downtown Albany.

The forum will convene Dr. Art Dunning, interim president of Albany State University; Dr. Anthony Parker, president of Albany Technical College; Dr. Paul Jones, interim president of Darton State College; Dr. Butch Mosely, superintendent of the Dougherty County School System; and Rose Walker Cook, center director of Turner Job Corps Center in Albany. During the forum, the panelists will share with the public what each institution is doing individually to strengthen education, and what they are doing collaboratively to create a skilled work force.

“It’s critical for government and citizens to have open dialogue about what’s going on in different areas of the community. This has been the focus of the Mayor’s Coalition for Economic Development – creating an avenue for this the type of communication brings clarity and builds trust,” said Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard. “Education is foundational for economic development, and in Albany, we’re privileged to have five outstanding institutions of education and work force development. Learning more about each and what they’re doing together is important.”

This is the fourth forum organized by the Mayor’s Coalition for Economic Development, a volunteer alliance whose focus is educating the public about economic development and is led by Hubbard.

The January 13 forum is from 5:30 p.m.-‐ 7:30 p.m. in room 100 of the Government Center, 222 Pine Ave. in downtown Albany.

The forum is free and the public is encouraged to attend. For more information, please call (229) 434-‐0044.
