On Tuesday, Albany Technical College officially signed a new Operations Management program articulation agreement with Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) in the Executive Board Room of the Logistics Education Center of Albany Tech’s campus.

Last fall, Albany Tech launched its new Operations Management program. The program trains students to enter the workforce as an entry-level supervisor within a manufacturing community and affords students the ability to organize, and lead an organization in its daily performance of the tasks of creating and producing a product that meets the needs of a customer, while producing revenue that will generate a profit."

While complimenting all existing manufacturing-related Albany Tech programs, courses are designed to acquaint students with the different types of operations necessary for the successful flow of product within an organization. Topics of discussion include human resource strategies, supply chain operation, inventory and planning management, and material and scheduling operations.

Students earning the associate degree in Operations Management at Albany Tech complete the educational requirements for Certified Associate Project Manager (CAPM®) and have the opportunity to complete other requirements for certification testing. Albany Technical College also offers PMP® certification and CAPM® certification in a non-credit offering for individuals and companies needing this specialized training.

Through the articulation agreement with Southern Polytechnic State University, students earning their associate degree with Albany Tech will be able to easily transfer on to SPSU to earn their bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Operations.

“This is another example of the partnerships we are building with Southern Polytechnic State University so that our students who choose to continue on and complete their bachelor’s degree can easily do so and without ever leaving Albany,” said Dr. Anthony O. Parker, President of Albany Tech.

More than two years ago, Albany Tech entered an articulation agreement with Southern Polytechnic State University for the Engineering Technology programs. Part of the agreement included Albany Tech providing
space for labs and classroom for Southern Polytechnic students in this field on campus so that students would not have to relocate to Atlanta to complete their bachelor’s degree classes.

“The articulation agreement between Albany Technical College and Southern Polytechnic State University is a win-win for the student and for the two institutions,” said Matt Trice, Vice President for the Center for Business Solutions at Albany Tech.

“This agreement allows our students to continue their education while never having to leave home and gives them the opportunity to secure a BAS from a well-respected and accredited university. We are pleased that this opportunity is available and look forward to our AAS students moving on to SPSU,” said Trice.

Students choosing to take advantage of this agreement who have completed all requirements of Albany Tech’s Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Operations Management will be able to transfer credits toward the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) program in Manufacturing Operations at Southern Polytechnic.
