Jay Kimbro, local agent for State Farm Insurance, tells his staff that they are not going to participate in the recession.  Rather than seeing a bad economy, Kimbro sees opportunity.

“State Farm recognized that consumers are dealing with adverse market conditions so over the last 24 months, they took proactive steps to lower rates, provide more discounts and trim administrative costs,” Kimbro said.

“Now is the perfect time for consumers and businesses to take proactive steps as well.  It’s a great opportunity to re-evaluate your insurance coverage.”

Re-evaluate your insurance choices

Typical policyholders should begin by reviewing their deductible choices.  Taking greater ownership of risk through a higher deductible can generate significant savings on monthly premiums.

Consumers also should re-examine coverage amounts to see if they are over-insured.  Given the recent decreases in housing prices and commodity prices, certain homeowners may be able to reduce their coverage amounts.

In addition, with State Farm broadening its discount packages, policyholders need to be sure they are receiving all applicable discounts.  For example, auto insurance policyholders can receive discounts for driving three years without a ticket, getting good grades if a driver is less than 25 years old, completing an approved defensive driving course or driving a car with an approved passive restraint system.  There are many others including discounts for purchasing multiple lines such as home, life and auto from State Farm.

“In my eight years of working as a State Farm agent, I’ve never been as excited at how competitive we are,” Kimbro said.  “We’re closing a higher percentage of business than ever before.”

Why consider State Farm

Kimbro has worked exclusively for State Farm since graduating from the University of Georgia.  Previously, he completed internships with other, primarily commercial, insurance carriers.

“I went with a personal-line carrier because I enjoy working with people.  The people of Albany make this a great place to do business,” Kimbro explained.

According to Kimbro, State Farm offers several advantages to consider when selecting an insurance carrier.  As a mutual company, State Farm does not have shareholders and therefore does not have to fund a dividend payment or face short-term earnings pressures.

“State Farm is the largest, most financially solvent insurance carrier.  And they are consistently rated number one by J.D. Power on policyholder satisfaction with claims paying,” Kimbro said.

“As an independent contractor, I work for my policyholders.  I’m excited by the proactive steps State Farm has taken during these tough times because I think it benefits my policyholders.”
